Apple on Wednesday unveiled updated versions of its priciest iPhones along with a new smartwatch that allows users to take their own electrocardiograms, as the United States tech giant looks to boost its momentum in a sputtering market.

Prior to Apple's official unveiling of the iPhone X a year ago, many analysts expected its anticipated revamped design to spark a massive upgrade cycle. Apple first introduced the new iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, which are the successors to the iPhone X.

CEO Tim Cook showed off the Apple XS, which has a bigger screen than the one on last year's dramatically designed model, the iPhone X. It'll cost about $1,000.

This includes the $1099 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max, the $999 5.8-inch iPhone XS, and the $749 6.1-inch iPhone XR. Instead of using stainless steel like the iPhone X and XS, the XR uses 7000 series aluminium for its metal frame.

Are you excited for the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max?

Executives made the announcement at the Steve Jobs Theatre at Apple's new circular headquarters in Cupertino, California, named after the company's co-founder who wowed the world with the first iPhone in 2007. There's also Qi wireless charging and it also supports 50% fast charge in 30 minutes provided you have the right accessories.

The camera has been improved as well. You get a 12MP main sensor, and another 12MP telephoto lens, with new lenses, that are supposedly better than before. For videos, you get stereo sound recording, which is great.

Apple will no longer provide the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter with the iPhone. Bringing a 4G antenna to the Watch was the first step in letting this tiny computer one day stand alone, and not simply be a satellite to the phone.

For users on Apple's upgrade plan, the tricked-out iPhone XS Max will run them a cool $68.66 a month on a 24-month payment plan. And of course, there's a new Gold color option. The iPhone XS with its neural engine can take photos and portraits in more detail than ever before.

If that claim is accurate, it'll be interesting to see it in action; Face ID in the iPhone X is fast, but there's still room for improvement. However, the iPhone XR with a 6.1-inch LCD screen is the cheapest smartphone in the new series. The fall detection feature is also something that will appeal to those with elderly parents.

Apple has given the A12 bionic processor in both of these smartphones, which is a six-core chipset. Xs Max is offered at £1,099, £1,249 and £1,449 price that is PKR 175,000, 200,000 and 230,000 respectively. The camera has OIS, and an f1/.8 aperture, with the true tone flash. The prices are relatively lesser than iPhone XS and iPhone XS which are available at starting price of Rs 99,900 and Rs 1,09,900.

Apple trademarked the term Retina in 2012, so don't expect any other smartphone brands to boast Retina displays any time soon.
